Deutsche Bank executes CER trade for irish agency.
Deutsche Bank’s Global Markets business has helped the Irish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to raise €2.4 million ($3.3 million) through the sale of excess European Union carbon allowances.
Deutsche Bank bought 185,000 allowances from the EPA to distribute through its global network of clients. EU allowances are carbon credits used in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).
Deutsche Bank's Head of Environmental Financial Products Structuring David Costa-D'sa said: "This is the first trade we have completed with the EPA and our long-standing relationship with the Irish government and trading expertise enabled us to execute quickly and efficiently on its behalf."
"Working with the EPA reflects the breadth of our client base and we are delighted to continue cooperating with it," he said.
Deutsche Bank has a market-leading carbon emissions trading team and ranked number one in Energy Risk's 2010 Awards for each of secondary CERs/Options, EUA Options and research.
Deutsche Bank voted No. 1 provider of a wide range of emissions products
Deutsche Bank was voted the No. 1 provider of a wide range of emissions products by end users in Energy Risk's annual poll.
It came top in the emissions research category for the second year running and was voted No 1 for EU emission allowance (EUA) options, Certificates of Emission Reductions and CER options in the secondary market.
Deutsche Bank was also voted a top two provider of EUAs and CERs in the primary market.
Coming on the back of Environmental Risk magazine's rankings published last year, the Risk survey confirms Deutsche bank as the clear market leader in the emissions market. Deutsche Bank ranked No 1 for Primary and Secondary CERs in the Environmental Risk rankings, and top 2 for EUAs, EUA Options, ERUs and VERs.
This makes Deutsche Bank one of the only firms to be a top two player in every major area of the emissions market.
