Green Buildings – for people and the cities of the future (Börsen-Zeitung)
August 30 – In their article "Green Buildings - for people and the cities of the future", the authors explain the necessity of facing the challenges of climate change and increasing urbanisation with energy-efficient buildings. With its “Greentowers” project, Deutsche Bank has showed how energy consumption can be radically reduced in an existing building. The modernization of the prominent Deutsche Bank towers in the heart of Frankfurt has attracted much attention, not only in the real estate community but also worldwide: the largest building renovation project in Europe, which began at the end of 2007, will result in one of the most environmentally friendly buildings in the world. Deutsche Bank’s Group Head Office is currently being completed and staff will reoccupy it at the end of 2010. This new generation of buildings not only has to be as sustainable as possible, but also be designed so flexibly that over the usual lifecycle of 25 to 30 years, the buildings can adapt to the requirements of the people living and working in them. The buildings have to serve people. Green Buildings that also integrate into the city surroundings help to increase the cities' attractiveness, to make them livable and allow for a sustainable urban development.
